Peoples Bank opens

From the July 8, 1919, Jerico Springs Optic

The People’s Bank of Jerico Springs opened its doors for business Tuesday morning July 8th in its building in the Gates Block. The building has been remodeled inside and out and new fixtures installed. The big safe arrived Tuesday and put in place in the north window in the bank. The new bank opens under very favorable conditions and they report their first day’s business show the deposit of $43,000.

The bank’s officers and stockholders are among the best and most enterprising citizens of this part of the county and is among the strongest organizations in this part of the state and will be in position to take care of their customers at all times.

This gives Jerico Springs two good banks in what we need now is a rock road to some good railroad point and a good mill and elevator to take care of the large amount of grain and giving the farmers a market for it at home and save hauling their wheat away and then having to haul flour, bran and other feed back. A lumber yard would be a big help to Jerico Springs and vicinity. It would stimulate building and improving the properties and would be a good location for a branch yard. Let us all work together for the betterment of Jerico Springs and her trade territory.
